Every fall, one of the Island’s culinary treats is the Bethany UMC Men’s Club Bar-B-Q dinners.  This year, it will be a “Cook-off” spectacular, offering three different flavors.  And remember, it’s always “All You Can Eat”, so this year that means “all you can eat” of all three.

The Church has rounded up three Island Chef/Teams renowned for their particular Bar-B-Q.  Tom Ledford, owner of a number of Zaxby’s (including the one of Folly Road), has a well-known special recipe.  Mike Taylor, a local contractor and owner of T. M. Taylor Construction, is a Bar-B-Q aficionado, and he will be preparing his specialty.  Toby and Pete Stewart, brothers and local maintenance and transportation businessmen, are a “southern-class” chef team with a great reputation.

The official judging will be done by a team of “taste-masters” from the James Island Fire Departments, but everyone will be invited to express their opinion. In addition to the Bar-B-Q (with baked beans and coleslaw), the women of the Church also sell a fabulous assortment of desserts – all of the home-made, mouth-watering variety.

This year, the event will take place Saturday, October 7th, from 5:00-7:00, at the Church, 1853 Maybank Highway – next to The Standard apartment complex.  The cost is $10.00 for adults, and $4.00 for children (plus a couple of desserts of your choice).

Great food; good conversation with other islanders.  How can you beat that!
