This beloved tale, in which a Kansas farm girl travels over the rainbow to discover the magical power of home, has been entertaining audiences for generations.
Dorothy Gale, a young girl living on a Kansas farm with her Aunt Em and Uncle Henry, dreams of escaping her mundane life. The family’s mean neighbor, Miss Gulch, threatens to impound Dorothy’s dog, Toto, so Dorothy and Toto run away. They meet up with kindly Professor Marvel, who subtly convinces Dorothy to return home. Suddenly a cyclone hits, and Dorothy and Toto, seeking shelter in the house, are transported to the Land of Oz where she meets The Scarecrow, The Tin Man, and The Cowardly Lion, Glinda, and The Wicked Witch of The West. The rest of the story is well-known to all. There’s no place like home!
The Wizard of Oz is directed by Scott Pfeiffer and choreographed by Savannah Schoenborn. Andrea Roule is the Music Director.
The success of two prior Kids on Stage (a C-PAC youth outreach program) productions demonstrated the need for providing quality theatrical education and performing opportunities for James Island, Johns Island and Folly Beach Youth. James Island Junior Theatre’s approach to the rehearsal process encourages cast members to Learn, Experiment, Apply and Perform (LEAP). The Wizard of Oz is the second of 4 productions scheduled for this season of the James Island Junior Theatre. Upcoming shows include Disney’s Peter Pan Jr. and Hairspray Jr.
