The Charleston Performing Arts Center (C-PAC) is thrilled to present the James Island Junior Theatre and its inaugural production, Little Mermaid Jr.! The James Island Junior Theatre is comprised of local youth actors, age 8 to 18, and performs at the C-PAC theatre at 873 Folly Road on James Island.
Little Mermaid Jr. opens on October 27th and runs through November 5th. Tickets are $5.00 (age 4-10), $10.00 (age 11-17) and $20.00 for adults. A special “Kid Date at the Theatre” performance at 2 pm on November 4th will feature a red carpet, specialty kiddie cocktails and themed snacks, and an autograph and photo session with Ariel and Prince Eric after the show.
Based on one of Hans Christian Andersen’s most beloved stories, and adapted from Disney’s Broadway production and motion picture, Little Mermaid Jr. is an enchanting look at the sacrifices we all make for love and acceptance. In a magical underwater kingdom, the beautiful young mermaid, Ariel, longs to leave her ocean home (and her fins!) behind to live in the world above. But first, she’ll have to defy her father, King Triton, make a deal with the evil sea witch, Ursula, and convince the handsome Prince Eric that she’s the girl whose enchanting voice he’s been seeking.
Little Mermaid Jr. is directed by Scott Pfeiffer and choreographed by Savannah Schoenborn. Andrea Roule is the Music Director.
The success of two prior Kids on Stage (a C-PAC youth outreach program) productions demonstrated the need for providing quality theatrical education and performing opportunities for James Island, Johns Island and Folly Beach Youth. James Island Junior Theatre’s approach to the rehearsal process encourages cast members to Learn, Experiment, Apply and Perform (LEAP). Little Mermaid Jr. is the first of 4 productions scheduled for this season of the James Island Junior Theatre. Upcoming shows include The Wizard of Oz, Disney’s Peter Pan Jr., and Hairspray Jr.
