The mission of the Lowcountry Senior Center is to empower older adults 50+ for personal independence, healthy aging, social connection and lifelong learning in the Lowcountry.

Lowcountry Senior Center and Waring Senior Center are owned by the City of Charleston and managed by Roper St. Francis. The Lowcountry Senior Center is located at 865 Riverland Drive.

Creative Writing Jump Start

Everyone needs a nudge of encouragement every once in a while. Whether you are a poet, novelist, short story writer or journalist, this course presents exciting ideas to help you put pen to paper and write! For all levels. Led by creative writing instructor, Lisa Chewning.
$27 for members, $30 for nonmembers per session.

Drawing and Painting Techniques

This class will cover drawing and painting techniques and more. Traditional techniques and materials will primarily be used while exploring new ways of seeing and composing art. Led by artist Hannah Heyward.
$18 for members, $24 for nonmembers per class.

Drawing Basics

Registration Deadline: 9/6/2017
Learn the basics of capturing the visual world through the art of drawing. Be introduced to the simple concepts of drawing with artist Michael Starnes. Great for the very beginner with no experience, but all levels welcome. Supply list available at front desk.
$15 for members, $25 for nonmembers per series.

Art Open Studio

Artist Charles Parnelle is on hand to help you with all forms of media such as oil painting, drawing or watercolors during our open studio. For all levels, beginners welcomed. Bring your own supplies.
$55 for members, $65 for nonmembers per four-week session.

Coffee Talk French

This intermediate level French conversation class gives participants an opportunity to practice speaking in French in a relaxed environment. Suggested pre-requisite: Participants should be able to interact with and participate in French conversation.

Watercolors

Designed for the intermediate level, explore light, shadow, and color. Led by artist Charles Parnelle. Supply list available at the front desk. Space is limited.

The center’s monthly book club varies the genres of literature read from month to month. Titles to be announced. Please call the senior center for the titles or check the class information on our website when registering for the class online.

Photography Club

Whether you are a beginner or an advanced photographer, this enjoyable club is for you. The photography club plans a field shoot between monthly meetings and then compares photos during the meetings. Includes a 30-minute DVD lecture on digital photography during the meeting.
Free for members, $10 for nonmembers.
