Sea Island Habitat build for Marine Corps Veteran on James Island

For two days, our nation’s heroes will come together on James Island to build a home for Habitat’s newest partner family: Tonya and her two sons. Tonya is a Marine Corps veteran. After years of hard work, she has put herself in a position to afford her first home, through Sea Island Habitat. We will be building a 3 bedroom 2 bathroom home for her.

Purpose of Veterans Build

Provide Dependable Housing

Safe, decent, affordable housing is the cornerstone for the success and safety of a family. Thanks in part to the work that our veterans will complete on November 10 and 11, Tonya will own her first home by February 2018. Tonya will be able to save money each month as a result of a very modest Habitat mortgage, and she will be able to build equity by owning instead of renting. The future looks bright for her and her two boys!

Strengthen Support Network for Vets

We provide construction experiences that build strong bonds between fellow volunteers. These relationships will form the foundation of a strong support network between veterans and active duty military, so that they can help one another transition to and succeed in civilian life. We will start each day by paying tribute to veterans, both those present and those who have fallen or could not make it to the project.

Not military? Still want to help? You can donate toward the construction materials for the home, by contacting Peter at 843-768-0998, or peter@seaislandhabitat.org.
